Microturbines

RPS, in association with our sister company NewEnCo (The New Energy Company), has pioneered the use of microturbines in the UK on biogas (landfill gas and sewage gas).

NewEnCo is the UK distributor for the world leading Turbec T100 microturbine. The

T100 is a fully packaged combined heat and power unit producing 115 kW of electricity and 170 kW of heat. The T100 population in the UK now numbers in excess of 50 units mostly running on natural gas in CHP applications such as leisure centres, greenhouses, hospitals and universities. Thirteen units have been supplied to operate on biogas (landfill gas and digester gas.

The lead units have in excess of 20,000 hours of operation running successfully without gas clean up (siloxane or hydrogen sulphide removal) but utilising NewEnCos specially developed gas conditioning and screw compressor module. Companies operating the T100 microturbine on biogas include Severn Trent, Welsh Water and South West Water.

Advantages of the T100 microturbines on biogas and natural gas include:
• Very clean exhaust gas emissions (allowing them to be used for direct injection into greenhouses for CO2 enhancement.)
• Low maintenance and high reliability
• Quiet with no vibration
• Small compact and light weight (which leads to easy relocation
• Tolerance to siloxanes and hydrogen sulphide
