Biomass / Wood CHP

RPS have set up a company dedicated to developing wood fuelled biomass CHP schemes called The Natural Carbon Company (TNCC).

Biomass energy generation uses energy from trees and plants to produce heat and power.

Image Description

Businesses are under increasing pressure from high gas, electricity and oil prices and from escalating levels of environmental legislation limiting carbon and other emissions. By converting to non fossil fuel energy sources both energy costs and emissions are reduced. Biomass provides one of the cheapest forms of renewable energy that can be easily used in industrial and commercial applications.

TNCC Biomass power schemes are fuelled by wood and other plants grown from sustainable sources and produce heat for process and space heating and electricity for industrial and commercial uses.

Biomass power is carbon neutral, i.e. it does not add to global warming carbon emissions. Every scheme that is installed will displace fossil fuel usage helping to conserve the remaining reserves. The energy source comes indirectly from the sun and is therefore totally renewable. Any electricity or heat generated from a renewable source is exempt from the Climate Change Levy and can also help a company meet their obligations under Climate Change Agreements and the EU Emissions Trading Scheme.

The output from a TNCC biomass plant can be in the form of electricity, steam, medium or low pressure hot water, thermal oil or any combination of the above. Outputs range from 300 kWt hot water up to 20 MWt+ combined heat and power plants. Electrical output may be as high as 5 MW or as low as 50 kW.
